n: En 1997 el Centro de Ciencias de la Salud de San Antonio de la Universidad de Texas estableció un centro regional académico de salud (RAHC) para el Bajo Valle del Río Grande en el sur de Texas. El objetivo del RAHC es el de mejorar el estado de salud y el acceso de servicios de salud para los ciudadanos del sur de Texas a través de programas de educación medica, instalaciones de investigación y colaboración con proveedores de servicios de salubridad. Este manuscrito explora el potencial del RAHC como modelo de educación medica para otras regiones fronterizas entre México y USA.
