DOI: 10.1177/1538192706299009 © 2007 SAGE Publications Hispanic Families as Facilitators of Their Children's Literacy DevelopmentUniversity of Maryland Hispanic families provide children with literacy-rich environments, experiences, and interactions. Studies were reviewed to identify the Hispanic families' literacy practices, which were influenced by the families' educational levels, language, beliefs, and cultural practices. Family members can reinforce the children's literacy learning when they are presented with literacy experiences in a myriad of settings and contexts. The Hispanic family's support, school environments, school challenges, literacy intervention programs, and educational implications are discussed.
